Climate and Nature Hustings

Climate Emergency Camden helped Zero Hour organise a Climate and Nature hustings in the constituency of Holborn and St Pancras.

It was held at St Pancras New Church, Euston Road, and was well attended. Unfortunately the Labour candidate, Keir Starmer, was unable to attend.

The event was chaired by Matthew Gould, CEO of the Zoological Society of London.

Charlie Clinton (Liberal Democrats), Andrew Feinstein (Independent), Adam Harrison (Labour, deputising for Keir Starmer) and David Robert Stansell (Green Party) participated.

All candidates and representatives expressed their support for the bill, which pledges to reduce UK emissions and halt and reverse nature loss through a cross-party approach.

Dr Amy McDonnell, co-director of Zero Hour stated: “[Thursday’s] hustings in Holborn and St Pancras was a vital opportunity for Keir Starmer to lay out Labour’s plans to his constituents, and it is a shame that he did not attend.”

The event was an effective indication of widespread public desire for rapid, increased climate action. Questions and comments of constituents demonstrated a general desire for increased governmental support so that individuals can afford to live more sustainably. Time will demonstrate whether candidate promises can materialise into reality.
